My Story

Hi,
My name is Dr. Arjun Mandal Khatway, MBBS, and I am from Nepal.
I currently practice medicine in a rural setting, where I often manage patients independently. Early in my career, I quickly realized how valuable Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) could be.
The problem was that I didn’t know enough ultrasound.
I wasn’t confident using the machine. I didn’t fully understand the knobs and buttons. I wasn’t always sure where to place the probe or how to optimize the image. Most importantly, I often struggled to know what was normal and what was abnormal.
Learning ultrasound felt difficult and frustrating.
I attended workshops, including pediatric POCUS training, and gained valuable knowledge. However, I soon realized that ultrasound cannot be mastered in a few days. There is simply too much to learn.
So I started studying on my own.
I read textbooks.
I watched YouTube videos.
I read online articles.
I explored online courses.
I PRACTICE every day.
But throughout my learning journey, I noticed one major problem:
Most ultrasound education is NOT organized for beginners.
Information is often scattered across multiple resources. Important concepts are not always taught in sequence. Many courses assume learners already have a foundation in ultrasound.
As a beginner, I struggled because I couldn’t find the type of resource I wished I had when I started.
That experience inspired me to create PracticalSono.
I built this platform based on the challenges I personally faced and the lessons I learned along the way.
My goal is to teach ultrasound the way I wish someone had taught me.
I Learn, I Practice, and I Share
Everything I teach on PracticalSono comes from my own learning journey, clinical practice, and continuous study.
I am committed to creating:
- Well-researched articles
- Practical tutorials
- Step-by-step guides
- Real scanning demonstrations
- High-quality educational videos
My focus is not on helping you pass an exam.
My focus is helping you become confident when you are standing beside a patient with an ultrasound probe in your hand.
I believe practical experience matters.
That is why I place a strong emphasis on real-world knowledge, image interpretation, scanning techniques, and clinical decision-making.
Affordable Ultrasound Course
My goals is to create affordable ultrasound courses for beginners.
Many ultrasound courses cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars, making them inaccessible for many learners around the world.
I want to create practical, beginner-friendly courses that provide real value without a high price tag, while also making my time and effort worth it.
These courses will include:
- Live scanning demonstrations
- Real patient examinations
- Practical tips from clinical experience
- Step-by-step learning pathways
- Common mistakes and how to avoid them
My goal is to make quality ultrasound education available to everyone, regardless of location or financial background.
